Cooling Centers in Montgomery County: 
Several cooling centers are available in the area. These include: 
• Butler Twp. Fire Station 88 on Little York Road, Butler Township
• Miamisburg Senior Adult Center at 305 E. Central Ave., Miamisburg
• Vandalia Recreation Center at 1111 Stonequarry Road, Vandalia
• Greater Dayton Recreation Center, 2021 W. Third St., Dayton 
• Lohrey Recreation Center and Belmont Pool, 2366 Glenarm Ave., Dayton
• Northwest Recreation Center, 1600 Princeton Drive, Dayton
• Local Libraries

American Red Cross Shelters – Closing at Noon on Monday, July 2nd
• Vandalia Recreation Center at 1111 Stonequarry Road, Vandalia
Designated Red Cross Shelter at the Vandalia Recreation Center is closing at noon on Monday, July 2nd, but will remain open as a cooling center.
• Fairhaven Church in Centerville at 637 E. Whipp Road
Designated Red Cross Shelter at the Fairhaven Church in Centerville is closing at noon on Monday, July 2nd and will no longer be a cooling center.

Free Bags of Ice – Monday, July 2, 2012:
Dayton Power & Light is offering free bags of ice at these locations:
• 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. – Meijer in Fairborn, 3928 Colonel Glen Highway
• 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. – City of Dayton Fire Station #13, 1723 W. Third Street.
• 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. – Kroger in Vandalia, 4532 Northwoods Blvd.

On Tuesday, some of our current and former interns received scholarships at Wilberforce University’s  Honors Convocation.  Dahrion Johnson, Lacretia Daniels, Hauwa Muibi, Jonathan  McBride, and Christopher Adams were all honored with at least one scholarship award.  We congratulate the students on their success.

2012 Facing the Expected Workshop Director D’Allensandris gives the keynote address. On March 24, the Wilberforce University-NNSA team hosted the 2012 Facing the Expected workshop.  Starting at roughly 9am, five speakers  talked about disaster preparedness in detail. Randy Hormann gives presentation to workshop. Director Lisa D’Allensandris (Clark County Emergency Management Agency) spoke about the critical nature of preparedness.   Ms. Catherine Reed (of Dayton Red Cross) taught the fundamentals of kit preparation and disaster planning.  Mr. Randy Hormann (of Campus Fire Safety) went into detail about home hazards.   Dr. Adeji Badiru (of AFIT) explained how human factors effected emergency communications, and our own Dr. Kera Watkins introduced our disaster planning software, WILBER. Dr. Badiru gives his presentation. We want to extend a special thanks to everyone involved with the workshop.  Gamma Phi Delta and Black Women United volunteered and donated food.  Our NNSA scholars also helped run the workshop.  The National Center for Medical Readiness and the Dayton Red Cross provided information booths during lunch (sponsored by McDonald’s of N. Detriot St., Xenia, Ohio).  The workshop was success due to the collaborative efforts of these groups and our own staff.   Again, Thanks for your help and participation!
